All organizations processing personal data must count on the appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO). However, the GDPR has made the appointment of DPOs for some entities mandatory. Such an obligation have eg. all schools, kindergartens, public authorities (eg municipalities and higher territorial units), as well as companies that process large-scale personal data.

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) can be an internal employee or an external entity. DPO is an advisory body that advises the collector or processor, for example, in helping to conclude mediation contracts, providing them with support and information in setting up the processing of personal data.
